Urology
Urologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the urinary system in men and women. The urinary system includes the kidneys, bladder, adrenal glands, ureters and urethra. Urologists also treat disorders of the reproductive system men. They treat specific organ-related problems that require a higher level of care. If cancer is found in the prostate, testicle, kidney or bladder a urologist often is consulted.

When to See a Urologist
Your primary care provider can treat a urinary tract infection with antibiotics, but if an infection is caused by urinary retention, you may get a referral to a urologist for a surgical intervention.
Hopefully you get routine PSA prostate cancer screenings with your primary care provider, and if your PSA number is high, you’ll want to see a urologist to follow up for additional testing.
If you experience any of the following symptoms you may need to consult a urologist:
- Abnormal prostate exam
- Blood in urine
- Difficulty urinating
- Elevated or change in Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) level
- Erectile dysfunction
- Frequent urination or urge to urinate often
- Infertility
- Kidney abnormality
- Painful urination
- Testicular pain, lump or mass

Our expert urologist, who is fellowship-trained in Urologic Oncology & Robotic Surgery, provides advanced treatments for a wide variety of urological conditions for adult men & women, many available in our area for the first time. The robotic technology has many advantages. It reduces the risk of bleeding and consequently the need for blood transfusion during and after the surgery. The surgical wound is much smaller, and the healing process is much less painful with less scar formation. Exposure of the internal organs to external contaminants is significantly reduced, therefore, reducing the risk of post-operative infection. Most patients receive a same-day or next-day discharge after major surgeries. Some of the procedures include robotic prostatectomy and robotic nephrectomy.
